finding hope:

an Upstate

meditation   retreat

AUGUST 8 - 10

In a world filled with uncertainty, we invite you to a retreat where grief transforms into hope, sadness gives way to joy, and isolation leads to the type of liberation that can only be found within and with community.

This intimate retreat offers a space to acknowledge the weight of our shared sadness. Through guided meditations, contemplative practices, and heartfelt community discussions, we will explore the depths of our emotions, honoring the pain while watering the seeds of hope within.

Amid the challenges we face, joy remains an ever-present possibility. Together, we will engage in practices that nurture joy—not by ignoring our grief, but by embracing it fully and allowing joy to arise naturally from within.

Freedom is found not in isolation, but in connection—with ourselves, each other, and the world around us. Through sitting and walking meditations, dharma talks, and communal meals, we will foster a sense of belonging and liberation.

If you have some experience with meditation and seek a community dedicated to doing this good work, we welcome you to join us. Together, we will navigate the complexities of our emotions, support one another, and envision a better world rooted in hope, joy, and understanding.

  • We like to keep things intimate in these retreats: so much of the magic happens in small group connection with each other. Participation is limited to 15 people so we recommend enrolling early.

  • Great question! The beauty of a retreat setting is that unlike a daily practice (often short and solitary) this is an opportunity to commit to the experience in full - including the depth of longer practice sessions and the power of practicing in community. With this in mind, we ask that you plan to join us all 3 days of practice!

  • You bet! We’ll have short breaks for stretching, tea and journaling peppered throughout, as well as a leisurely lunch break on Saturday for napping, reading, exploring the village, cloud watching, connecting with retreat friends, etc. ☁️

  • Absolutely! Please make a note that you would like a chair (as primary or back up) in your registration.

There will be dharma talks, community discussion, sitting + walking meditation, plant-based meals (lunch and dinner) and leisure time to read, rest, journal and explore.

  • Oh my goodness, no. Don’t worry, your body will get a break. We’ll be rotating between sitting and walking meditations during our practice periods.

  • If you’re interested in joining us we’d love to have you! Please note, though - a retreat is not the best environment to learn how to meditate. Some experience with meditation is highly recommended to get the most out of this retreat. If you’ve never meditated before, now is a GREAT time to start! You can always join us at our summer retreat.

  • Nope! And this is great news if you’re looking to deepen your experience of meditation. Light guidance paired with longer sessions, silence, and the support of others in the room creates the perfect environment for our own insights and realizations.

WHAT’S INCLUDED

Our weekend of practice will center around community practice sessions, a light dinner on Friday evening, lunch and dinner on Saturday, and lunch on Sunday afternoon. There will be fruit, granola, tea and coffee available in the mornings. All meals will be plant based and gluten free, though if you have special dietary restrictions and/or allergies, please send us a note upon registration.

There is an all inclusive option to register with lodging in a nearby “Retreat House” that has been rented for our weekend participants, with transportation arranged to and from the retreat site. Think: a sweet home for the weekend with a private bedroom in a shared space with 2 other retreat guests (whom we will put you in contact with before the retreat begins). This option is limited to 9 participants.

If you are looking to book your own lodging, we recommend staying in the towns of Kinderhook, Hudson, Chatham or Ghent - which are all within a 20 minute driving radius and have plenty of great AirBnB and hotel options available.

There is also an option to register with Saturday morning and/or Sunday morning yoga classes included at Village Yoga to kick off your day of practice. Note: this option is limited to 10 participants / day.

Transportation will be included for those who are arriving by train to Hudson.

MEALS WILL TAKE PLACE AT SUPER STORIES : A FUNKY ART SPACE IN KINDERHOOK’S VILLAGE SQUARE.

MEALS COOKED WITH LOVE AND INTENTION - AND WITH LOCAL, SEASONAL, AND ORGANIC INGREDIENTS - BY MASTER TEACHER BOBBIE MARCHAND

NEW LOCATION

2025

If you joined us for our summer retreats in recent years, then you know the joy of practicing outdoors, under the tents and on the lawn with us.

THIS YEAR we’ve partnered with the good people at Village Yoga to offer our 2025 retreats in their beautiful INDOOR space. We’ll still have plenty of chances to put our bare feet in the grass (if that’s your thing) and stare up at the clouds.

2025. What a perfect year to practice developing sturdiness and clarity.
