Upstate   meditation   retreat

JUNE  21 - 23

W. LODRO RINZLER & ADREANNA LIMBACH

space for big feelings

Meditation apps. Online classes. Zoom retreats. Thank goodness for technology — it carried us through the peak Covid years, and in many cases gives us access to guided meditation and the community that supports our practice. However if you’ve ever meditated in a space with other real live, three dimensional humans, then you likely know just HOW GOOD it feels to have your practice supported by others, practicing side by side — like singing with the choir.

There is power in having a space where we can get quiet, feel what we’re feeling, and connect with others around what comes up for us when we sit down, And it’s likely that these days, a lot is coming up for many of us. In today's complex world, where challenges (both personal and global) abound, it's natural to feel BIG feelings.

Enter this retreat. A weekend of exploring meditation as a path to emotional resilience.

A.k.a: navigating big feelings.

You might think of this retreat as a time-out — devoted to creating the space and accessing the clarity that comes from taking a closer look at our inner landscape. Through guided meditations, group discussions, shared meals, transformative exercises and plenty of time to read, journal and rest, we'll equip ourselves with new tools for feeling big feelings, locating our center and meeting our lives with courage and compassion.

And who knows — we might find that though the world remains complex, we emerge together a bit more steady. A little more grounded. Fortified, clear and prepared to encounter whatever life offers us next.

  • Great question! The beauty of a retreat setting is that unlike a daily practice (often short and solitary) this is an opportunity to commit to the experience in full - including the depth of longer practice sessions and the power of practicing in community. With this in mind, we ask that you plan to join us all 3 days of practice!

  • You bet! We’ll have short breaks for stretching, tea and journaling peppered throughout, as well as a leisurely lunch break on Saturday for napping, reading, exploring the village, cloud watching, connecting with retreat friends, etc. ☁️

  • Absolutely! Please make a note that you would like a chair (as primary or back up) in your registration.

  • Absolutely! Small feelings and medium feelings are welcome, too. The topic of this year’s retreat is centered around meditation as a path towards emotional resilience, which means that if you are a human who feels, there will be something in it for you.

  • Oh my goodness, no. Don’t worry, your body will get a break. We’ll be rotating between sitting and walking meditations during our practice periods.

  • If you’re interested in joining us we’d love to have you! Please note, though - a retreat is not the best environment to learn how to meditate. Some experience with meditation is highly recommended to get the most out of this retreat. If you’ve never meditated before, now is a GREAT time to start! You can always join us next year.

  • Nope! And this is great news if you’re looking to deepen your experience of meditation. Light guidance paired with longer sessions, silence, and the support of others in the room creates the perfect environment for our own insights and realizations.

NEW LOCATION

2024

If you joined us for our summer retreats in 2021-2022, then you know the joy of practicing outdoors, under the tents and on the lawn with us.

THIS YEAR we’re partnering with the good people at Village Yoga to offer our 2024 retreat in their beautiful INDOOR space. We’ll still have plenty of chances to put our bare feet in the grass (if that’s your thing) and stare up at the clouds.

There will be less chance of practicing with the rain. Also our cushions won’t be damp with morning dew. As sweet as that was.

2024. It’s good to be back indoors with y’all.

WHAT’S INCLUDED

This meditation retreat includes community practice sessions, a light dinner on Friday evening, lunch and dinner on Saturday, and lunch on Sunday afternoon. There will be fruit, granola, tea and coffee available in the mornings. All meals will be plant based and gluten free, though if you have special dietary restrictions and/or allergies, please send us a note upon registration.

There is an option to register with lodging included in a nearby “Retreat House” that has been rented for our weekend guests, with transportation arranged to and from the retreat site. Think: a sweet home for the weekend with a private bedroom in a shared space with 2 other retreat guests (whom we will put you in contact with before the retreat begins). Limited to 12 participants.

If you are looking to book your own lodging, we recommend staying in the towns of Kinderhook, Hudson, Chatham or Ghent - which are all within a 20 minute driving radius and have plenty of great AirBnB and hotel options available.

There is also an option to register with Saturday morning and/or Sunday morning yoga classes included at Village Yoga to kick of your day of practice. Note: this option is limited to 10 participants / day.

Transportation will be included for those who are arriving by train.
